How is a portfolio company different from an AI consultancy or vendor?
A consultancy bills for time and a vendor licenses software; both leave when the contract ends. We take equity in a jointly owned company and stay as an owner-operator. That means our return depends on the venture working in production for years, not on shipping a pilot. It also means we only engage where we believe the business case is strong enough to underwrite with our own capital.
What kind of companies does Vektor partner with?
Established operators in complex, regulated sectors — businesses that already have market position, proprietary data and operational scale, but have not yet built the agentic layer on top of it. What does “agentic” actually mean here?
Systems that take actions, not just make predictions. An agentic layer observes the operating environment, decides, and executes against real systems of record — with humans supervising the loop rather than driving every step. We build these to run continuously in production, which is a materially harder standard than a model that scores well in evaluation.
